Put yourself in perspective

Deceptive name for this site. I plopped in my rounded off, modest salary and was told I am in the top 0.899% richest people in the world (but there are still almost 54 million people richer than me...)
That's not to say I am rich... that's the point... I make a decent salary for a young single guy; just getting by here in one of the cheapest metropolitan cities in North America...
in any case.. gah!

Be careful...
we can all easily figure out your salary by going to that site too...
i don't care, but it's an easy way to cause resentment!

Sell your car to us for a very nice price, and you'll be even richer!

Hmmm... I seem to have once again totally mis-explained myself... This was not about how much I make... it was about how little MOST people make. And how humbled and priviledged I, and all of you, should feel.
If someone resents me because of my salary (it's nothing special, really), then they do not know me. Nor do they have a firm grasp of what's important (i.e.: surely not my salary...).

Boris...i agree with you...the Rich List...if you are a western professional employed person put into perspective that no matter how we choose to live, from house owning-2child-onedog-whitepicket-fence to urban-inner-city-dwelling-hispter-goout-every-night-person.... we are damn priveldged. I guess my post was somewhat personal. I remember when got my first job after school with a salary and i laughed. I found my salary silly (which now doesn't seem all that silly)...and i remember beingout one night with friends, laughing and being silly, saying "can you beleive that they are paying me X dollars a year?! That's crazy!".....and all i got where blank glares.
white collar salaries are a touchy subject with teachers and social workers. just saying, be careful of your audience.
but i know what you are saying.

Warren: and I totally know what you are saying too. Thanks. :) You are right.
(BUT, as we both now, and on a totally other trip, we both (ahem, the bunch of us) are fetching far less than we could in other markets... but that's another ballgame, and we love Montreal too much... ;)

ahhh..the infamous "What are we worth" question....
sure, in NYC...San Fran...Toyko...London...we would be getting much money..but let's also take into account the rental rates in Montreal...and we know that for all it's worth, we are doing well...
sure, there is the issue of being in "major" cities...but i love this town...the key now is to get work somewhere else, and make people realize that we can do as good if not better work, and for cheaper (not a selling point i ever want to push)....and i can be anywhere in Europe or the US, by plane, within 6 hours for any meeting, anytime....
without dropping too much info...i have a newish, renovated 2 bedroom place, within a 20 minute WALK of downtown montreal..in one of the best niebourhoods ANYWHERE...

and my rent, in USD$ is about $350....
is it worth is?
i think so....
