Here I am, the de facto über geek of my local social network, and I am left ex-communicado ...
Just received an SMS from a buddy asking me what the plan is for tonight. Said buddy has never called or SMS'ed me before. We just sorta end up showing up at the same events.
So, why am I red-faced now? Because I do not have his cellphone number, nor do I have a cellphone that supports sending SMS messages...
Can you believe that? I can't. Blows my mind.
That sucks that you can't reply. Hopefully he'll see your blog or call you. :)
I don't know much about SMS (never used it since in Japan we simply have real email on mobile phones. :)) but how come you can receive some but not send any?
Hehe. Buddy doesn't read blogs... Much of my local social network is actually quite tech-agnostic still...
However I did manage to find his phone number and SMS him via his provider's web-SMS interface...
As to why I can't send messages... that's the embarassing part, which I just realised I didn't make clear in the post... I have a 5 year old Motorola i1000plus hooked up with a provider who targets mostly on-the-road workers.. and I don't mean telecommuters, I mean truckers and construction workers...
Time to switch and upgrade, certainly.. I just can't get myself to shell out the big bills for the cellphone I really want/neeeeed...

1. shift + apple + N > in ichat
2. enter +1(areacode)(number) of recipient
3. write message
4. voila !
