For some unknown reason, my system is hosed. I am going to go eat, come back and reinstall the OS.

JUST what I needed. REALLY.

Ahh- if you were a WinXp user you could just roll back your OS to a recovery point yesterday :)

Or on Solaris 9 you could just call in a techy at $85/hr to re-install your kernel...
